The ride from Llandovery to have lunch in Llanelli is around an hour, depending on tractors. It’s a fabulous route, the perfect mix of breathtaking views and bends. We first made the trip to Un1t-7 as part of the Wales Round Ribbon event. Another gem discovered that is now a regular on our list. On our second visit, we went outside and found the added bonus – the oustanding Vans Street Food. Two gems at one stop!
The welcome at Un1t-7 is always warm and friendly. It’s a pretty cool looking place, a unit that’s industrial and yet somehow warm and welcoming. Of course, the smell of Coaltown coffee (another local success story) adds to the ambience. There’s a good selection of cakes to go with your coffee and for evening events, there’s a rum bar.
We like the feel of the place. They say that they wanted to create somewhere that people could come together and talk about cool stuff like cars, bikes and sports. And they want it to be safe space to talk about mental health and wellbeing. It’s great to see this being spoken about and spaces where everyone feels seen are vital to encourge this. Un1t-7 feels to be getting it right.
Opening times for Un1t-7 are: Tuesday to Friday 11am – 3pm. Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm. Take a look at the events page for evening events coming up.
It’s a favourite for lunch in Llanelli because of it’s recent addition.
Step through the french windows into the rear courtyard and you’re greated by an area of comfortable covered seating. And the smell of something delicious cooking. This is where you’ll find the converted horsebox that houses Vans Street Food. Serving high quality locally sourced produce that’s cooked by chef, Dani Wood, who is pretty exceptional.
What’s on the menu?
The menu has a mix of street foods that include small plates, dirty fries, burgers and specials. Each time we go for lunch in Llanelli, we try another of the small plates and different fries (check out the Pork Belly – best we’ve ever eaten!) Everything is cooked to order and the smells soon entice you to ask ‘what are you cooking Dani?’ and then add another dish.
Everything we’ve tried has been delicious. Cooked to perfection – the juciest chicken burger I’ve had. The fries are crispy and packed with flavour and we can recommend all of the loaded / dirty options. I think John’s favourite is the chilli. The pork belly (did I mention it already?) is absolutely amazing. Dani told me it’s slow roasted for hours and you can tell. On our last visit, we asked if we could take some home for Sunday lunch. Needless to say Dani obliged and we were singing his praises all Sunday afternoon.
Vans Street Food are currently open Thursday and Friday 11am-3pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm. When an event is on at Un1t-7, such as one of their bike nights, Vans are often open too.
